Kerala Mutton Recipes

Mutton Kuruma Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Mutton - 1/2 kg
  • Oil - 1/4 cup
  • Cinnamon - 3 small pieces
  • Cloves - 6 nos
  • Cardamom - 3 nos
  • Poppy Seeds - 1/2 cup
  • Cashew nuts - 1/4 cup
  • Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  • Onions - 1/2 cup (chopped length-wise)
  • Ginger crushed - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic crushed - 12 nos
  • Green chillies - 4 nos
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Tomato (medium)- 1 no
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Coriander leaves - a handful
  • Salt - to taste


Preparation:

  1. Wash and cut the meat in small square pieces.
  2. Make a paste of poppy seeds, cahew nuts, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon stick.
  3. Also grind coconut and make a paste and keep aside.
  4. In a pan heat 2 tsp of oil and fry crushed garlic till it turn to brown. Keep aside.
  5. Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and fry till, they turn brown.
  6. Add ginger and green chillies and stir well.
  7. Add this to mutton pieces. Add salt and cook it well with enough water.
  8. When mutton is almost cooked, add turmeric, chilli powder and coriander powder and mix well.
  9. Then add popy seed paste and coconut paste and mix well. Boil it for few minutes.
  10. Add water if need be. Then add tomato cut in lengthwise and cook for few more minutes.
  11. When it is almost done add pepper powder and mix well. Add fried garlic and mix well.
  12. Add coriander leaves and curry leaves and cook for few more minutes.
  13. Mutton kurma is ready.
