Kerala Chicken Curry Recipes
Chicken Kurma Recipe
Ingredients:
- Chicken - 1/2 kg
- Onion - 3 nos (finely chopped)
- Cumin seeds (Jeerakam) - 1/2 tsp
- Green chillies - 6 nos
- Ginger paste - 2 tsp
- Garlic paste - 2 tsp
- Grated coconut - 1 1/2 cups
- Coriander powder - 1 1/2 tsp
- Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
- Poppy seeds (Khashakhasha) - 1 tsp
- Curd (not sour) - 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon (Karugapatta) - 3 small pieces
- Cloves (Grambu) - 4 nos
- Cardamom (Elakka) - 3 nos
- Coriander leaves - 3 stems
- Tomato - 2 nos
- Vegetable Oil - 4 tsp
- Salt - As reqd
Preparation:
- Cut chicken into medium sized pieces and wash well.
- Blend grated coconut, cumin seeds and poppy seeds in a mixer grinder.
- Heat oil in a frying pan.
- Fry cinnamon sticks, cloves and cardamom.
- When fried, add onions and green chillies and stir fry, till onion turns brown.
- Add chicken pieces, coriander powder, chilly powder and salt. Stir well for a little while.
- Add chopped tomatoes and curd along with a cup of water. Allow it to boil.
- When chicken is half-cooked, add the blended coconut mixture, coriander leaves and boil well, till chicken is fully cooked.
