Message of the Christmas Star
The Christmas star is a favourite and important symbol of Christmas. On Christmas season atleast one star appears on the front of every house. Also at the top of Christmas tree, Christmas cards etc. It is not only just an ornament for decoration but shining a star in our house, a small Jesus should born in our hearts and the star shines not only into our eyes but also into our hearts too. Then only the celebration of Christmas has any meaning.
It is believed that when Jesus born in Bethlehem a star appeared on the sky and seeing this star the three wise men came to see the new born Jesus. The light of that star led them to the light of the world, the real Christmas Star, Jesus Christ himself.
Christmas Flowers
Flowers symbolize life. When buds blossom into flowers, it represents a celebration of the renewal of life, which is the very core of Christmas celebration. Each flower signifies peace, love and prosperity. So, we often get to hear about flowers like Christmas rose, Holly, Ivy, Poinsettia and Mistletoe as Christmas Flowers.
Poinsettias plants were symbolic of the Star of Bethlehem. It is native to Mexico. Thus the Poinsettia became associated with the Christmas season. The actual flower of the poinsettia is small and yellow. But surrounding the flower are large, bright red leaves, often mistaken for petals.
Mistletoe:
Two hundred years before the birth of Christ, the Druids used mistletoe to celebrate the coming of winter. They believed the plant had special healing powers for everything from female infertility to poison ingestion. Scandinavians also thought of mistletoe as a plant of peace and harmony. They associated mistletoe with their goddess of love, Frigga. The custom of kissing under the mistletoe probably derived from this belief.
